Google Cloud Associate Data Practitioner - Study Strategy¶
Four sections: Preparation and Ingestion ~30%, Analysis and Presentation ~27%, Data Management ~25%, Orchestration ~18%. Hours should follow the weights, but Orchestration is small and quick to learn, so do not skip it.
Study Approach¶
Phase 1: Ingest and analyze (Weeks 1-2)¶
- Read notes 01 and 02. Build the three decision tables (transfer tool, storage product, location type) from memory.
- In the BigQuery console, load a CSV from Cloud Storage and query it. Train and evaluate one BigQuery ML model.
Phase 2: Orchestrate and manage (Weeks 3-4)¶
- Read notes 03 and 04. Create a scheduled query. Set a lifecycle rule on a test bucket. Grant Data Viewer plus Job User to a test user.
Phase 3: Exam readiness (Week 5)¶
- Do the practice bank in two sittings. For every miss, reread the matching note section, not just the explanation.
Exam Tactics¶
- Underline the constraint (volume, frequency, latency, compliance) before reading the options.
- Eliminate the over-engineered option. If one answer needs a cluster and another needs a setting, the setting usually wins.
- Multiple select: the stem says how many to choose; verify each choice stands alone.
- Time: 2 hours for 50-60 questions, about 2 minutes each; flag and return.
- Use the official sample questions linked on the exam page to see the style.
Common Traps¶
- Choosing Composer for a single scheduled SQL statement.
- Choosing Dataflow when a BigQuery subscription (no processing) is enough.
- Confusing HA (failover) with read replicas (read scaling) with PITR (human error).
- Picking a basic role for convenience.
- Choosing Transfer Appliance when the network is fast and the volume is moderate.
